ISO 14064
GHG Emissions Reductions Registry has chosen ISO 14064 as the standards platform. ISO 14064 is universally recognized as the international standard for measurement, quantification and reporting greenhouse gases and GHG reduction projects. It is one standard within the ISO 14000 series dedicated to environmental management.
ISO 14064 contains 3 parts. These parts include:

Eligible Protocols/Methodologies
The GHG Emission Reductions Registry does not define or restrict the project types that may be employed to reduce or remove Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Regardless of the quantification methodology utilized, all projects must adhere to the requirements of ISO 14064-2 as well as utilize the best available science published by credible sources, along with reference to those sources. The GHG Emissions Reductions Registry permits both standard, and non-standard methodologies. Proponents are encouraged to source, utilize and adapt established protocols and methodologies of recognized origin.
Standard (Established) Methodologies
Established protocols that have been accepted by voluntary or legislated GHG programmes may be used for project development, so long as the methodologies have been subject to review by the governing programme. Examples of GHG programmes with established protocols include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Gold Standard (GS)
- Clean Development Mechanism
- Climate Action Reserve
- American Carbon Registry
- Alberta(Canada) Specified Gas Emission Offset System
Non Standard (New) Methodologies
The GHG Emissions Reductions Registry recognizes the fact that certain GHG projects can demonstrate tangible and credible emission reductions meeting ISO 14064 standards but do not have an established methodology for reference.
Project Developers wishing to utilize a non-standard methodology must ensure that the methodology and project will adhere to ISO 10464 standards utilize the best available science and commonly used emission coefficients for quantification of reductions and removals within the project boundary. The methodology used MUST be posted on the registry as a separate document or posted within the GHG Project Plan, and will be subject to a review by GHG Emissions Corp for completeness and acceptability.
GHG Emission Reductions Registry strongly advises Project Developers using a non-standard project methodology to refer, adopt and/or adapt applicable elements from established methodologies and make clear reference as to how the application elements apply to the project and where regional, local or site-specific deviations were applied.
